100 mile circumambulation of Mt. Fuji in Japan in May

Very pleased to be invited to this year's inaugural Ultra-Trail Mt. Fuji, a 100 mile trail event in Japan.  It is an awesome opportunity to spend 48 hours in the wilderness of Japan circumambulating the most sacred symbol of Japan, Mt. Fuji.

I am honored to be able to be part of this event.

from the official website (really love this me)

RACE MISSION

Self-Exploration

This race is not about being the fastest runner or about competing against other people. This race around Mt. Fuji is an incredible 160 km journey. A journey that covers an extraordinary distance by foot. They will be physically and mentally challenged and pushed to explore their limits and discover new possibilities within themselves.

To cultivate respect for the natural environment

Japan's culture has always been very deeply interconnected with the natural environment. However, in recent times, people have started to lose sight of this important connection. This race aims to make participants realize the importance of our coexistence with nature. It will cultivate and promote respect towards the natural environment through the outdoor sport of trail running while rigorously endeavoring to minimize any damage to the environment.

To share the trails with everybody

These trails have been created over many years by the people who live, work and enjoy the mountains. It is important for those that use these trails for recreation to understand and respect the fact that these trails are still actively used by these people. This race aims to provide a mutual understanding between these different users and help communicate and promote the sharing of these trails.
